THE SMALL PRINT
Where the shops come from
We combine three open sources: OpenStreetMap (places tagged as kebab, döner, shawarma, Turkish or Middle Eastern food, or with kebab in the name), the FSA food hygiene register (takeaways and restaurants with kebab, döner, shawarma or Turkish names, and charcoal or meze grills) and Overture Maps places (kebab, Turkish and Middle Eastern categories). Two separate searches were run and merged, and where sources overlap they become one shop. “Sit-down” means the place is listed as a restaurant rather than a takeaway.
Opening hours only come from OpenStreetMap, and only 12% of shops have hours we can read, so “open” and “closed” only cover those shops. Bank holiday rules are ignored. If your favourite is missing or its hours are wrong, fix it on OpenStreetMap and it will show up in our next refresh.
Hygiene ratings
Ratings come from the Food Standards Agency (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and Food Standards Scotland. Each rating is from the shop’s last inspection. We matched shops to FSA records automatically, by name and location, so some matches will be wrong. The FSA website is the official source. This site is not endorsed by the FSA.
Your privacy
“Near me” only asks for your location when you tap it, and your location never leaves your device: all the distance maths happens in your browser. Postcode and town searches are sent to postcodes.io to find where they are. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t follow you around other sites. The only thing we keep is the map style you picked, saved in your own browser.
To see how the board gets used, we also keep daily totals of a few things: which areas get searched (only the first half of a postcode, like CH45, never the full postcode), which shops get opened, and which buttons and partnership spaces get tapped. Nothing is linked to you: no cookies, no IP addresses kept, and from “Near me” only whether it worked. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we don’t count any of it.
Sponsored spaces are always labelled. Sponsors can’t buy a place on the menu board or change a hygiene rating.

The Sauce-o-meter is a joke. Its numbers are made up and are not reviews.
